SDG Summit - Day 1

SDGs Localization By and For Youth through Digital Innovation

The UN recognized that to be able to fully implement the SDGs there is need of action starting from the local level and who best then young people can help doing that?

Keys of SDGs Localization:

  • engagement of youths: there is the need of active people

  • education: provide the tools to take action and take decisions

  • creating awareness

  • scaling up the implementation of the projects

  • figure out the interrelation between local action and global goals

Existing examples around the world of youth engagement:

  • International Youth Conference: the aim is to reach youths on-site especially in the Global South and make them engaged as well as part of the process of UN measures

  • South-North Scholars: youth-led network of students and professionals to develop global opportunities that enable youth to be thought partners in solving humanity's critical development challenges

  • Major Group for Children and Youth at the United Nations

  • AFS Intercultural Programs: international, voluntary, non-governmental, non-profit organization that provides intercultural learning opportunities to help people develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world

  • Blockchain for Claimate Founfation: the goal is connecting the National Carbon Accounts of the world to enable cross-border collaboration in emissions reductions.

Blockchain and digital innovation can contribute to the fight against climate change by:

  • Providing transparent carbon accounting and ensuring supply chain transparency, all managing and sharing climate data securely

  • Facilitating renewable energy trading and automating climate agreements with smart contracts, offering at the same time climate-positive incentives
